LEEDS HUMAN RIGHTS JOURNAL - VOLUME 11, ISSUE 1 - SUMMER 2024
Dear Readers,
We are overjoyed to present to you Volume 11, Issue 1, of the Leeds Human Rights Journal.
This year, our 'In-Focus' theme is 'Voice.' Yours, Mine, Ours. The voices of millions of people all over the world lost amid the tides of unspeakable human rights crises. During our time with the Journal, people all over the world have been subjected to unprecedented challenges to their rights and livelihoods. We have witnessed an untold number of tragedies from the crisis in Yemen to the removal and destruction of homeless individuals' tents by Camden Council in London.
In this Journal, our fantastic contributors have used their voices to highlight topics ranging from the neglected voices of Hongkongers in the United Kingdom to the inquiring about the status of North Koreans as refugees. They have been each shown what it means to empower a marginalised, disregarded, or otherwise suppressed perspectives.
Our peer reviewers have also been pillars of support for the Editorial Team, assisting the Journal with reviewing this year's contributions. We are immensely grateful for the patience and work of both the contributors and the peer reviewers this year. This publication would not have been possible without them.
The Journal's blog this year has equally received some excellent contributions, which we will be highlighting.
Ultimately, it is our duty to uphold voices - so often unheard - however we can. We must listen and we must act.
We thus invite our readers to use this year's Journal to ultimately use your Voices. And listen to and uplift, the voices of others - always, always remembering their light and their power.
Yours sincerely,
the Editorial Board, 2022-2023
